What is not going down well with recruiters?

By GSR2R Admin | 10th October 2024

I’ve noticed many of my clients are asking their recruiters to come into the office more, even if just for a day or two a week.

Honestly, it’s not going down well with recruiters.

Most high-performing recruiters love the hybrid setup and are resistant to change.

I understand that you want them in the office to boost culture, grow and learn, but this shift can be tricky.

When you ask them to return, they are thinking: “Why don’t you trust me?”,  which can make them consider leaving.

So, let’s elaborate on what is not going down well with recruiters and why.

Here’s the good news

I’ve seen clients successfully encourage their recruiters to come in more often. It’s all about how you handle the conversation.

What to avoid

  • Demanding they return with no flexibility
  • Briefly addressing it and moving on
  • Applying inconsistent rules for different people
  • Giving only a week’s notice

Instead, try this

  • Have a Chat: Discuss their concerns and share your reasons.
  • Be Honest: Explain why in-office time benefits everyone.
  • Offer a Trade-Off: For example, some clients allow a shorter week if they come in more regularly.
  • Show Empathy: Recognise the significant changes they’ve made and give them time to adapt.
  • Acknowledge Impact: Admit how past flexibility has affected them and seek their input on solutions.
